WHAT DOES MY VACATION INCLUDE?
A Severe Weather Country Expedition includes hotels stays for each night of your tour, including the arrival and departure nights. We choose well lit, clean, and highly rated hotels. It's important to maintain comfortability between chase days. Guests are responsible for purchasing arrival and departure flights to the base city, dinner meals, and attraction fees during inactive severe weather activity. We provide daily breakfast, vehicle maintenance, fuel, on-board wifi, tablets, SWC chase team T-shirts, and other surprises!
HOW SHOULD I PACK FOR MY TOUR?
Due to minimal space in the SWC chase vehicle, you are permitted to bring 1 medium sized travel/duffel bag, and 1 small bag or backpack for snacks, medicines, and small electronics. Suitcases will not be permitted. Only pack for the amount of chase days on your tour. Guest laundry services are available at each of our hotel establishments. Laptops, tablets, and cameras are all permitted on an SWC Expedition, and we encourage you to take full advantage of the beauty you will experience in Tornado Alley. You may bring your phone, tablet, music device(s), and headphones/buds as well!
WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE AND DEPART?
Guests need to arrive the day prior to the first chase day and no later than 4pm CDT. All guests must attend storm chasing orientation at 6PM CDT on the evening of your arrival to the base city. Departing flights should be arranged between the hours of 6AM and 12PM on the day AFTER your last chase day.(Check out time is typically 11am) Guests will not be able to depart at the close of the last chase day. Depending on weather scenarios, the opportunity to chase significant severe weather may be available upon your arrival, so please be on time.
WILL WE SEE A TORNADO ON OUR TOUR?
The SWC schedule takes into account the deterministic chance of Tornado Events across 11 states. While there is no certainty that you will witness a bonafide Tornado, we do promise to deliver you to strong low level rotation, funnel clouds, and/or extreme hail. If not, you will receive 25% off one future tour with SWC. You will get a first hand account of the most intense severe thunderstorms in the world, including supercells, extreme wind and hail, phenomenal cloud arrays, and wicked lightning. Each chase day will take you on an adventure you'll never forget!
MAY WE DRIVE OUR PERSONAL VEHICLE?
Yes! Some of our hotels will allow you to park your vehicle at the hotel while we are away on the tour. When not available, you may park your vehicle in the airport covered parking lot. The airports typically charge a fee of $5 to 12 dollars per day to do so. Let us know during booking if you are interested in this option, and we will provide you with the necessary information so you can plan your trip accordingly. In either case, you will be fully responsible for any theft or damage to your vehicle when left unattended. Severe Weather Country LLC, our hotel affiliates, nor the base airport will be liable for such circumstances.
HOW CLOSE WILL WE GET TO TORNADOES?
SWC Expeditions will remain at a safe distance from low-level circulations and tornadoes at all times. We specialize in analyzing the highly variable factors inherent in tornado development, and this allows us to react quickly and maintain a safe and secure perimeter for our guests. It is vital that the SWC chase vehicle remain in good working order to maintain the ability to escape extreme weather scenarios, and successfully chase additional storms. Chasing tornadoes is dangerous, and SWC forecasters reserve the right to make safety the number one priority when determining a targeted chase area.
IS SMOKING ALLOWED DURING A STORM CHASE?
Smoking is not permitted within the SWC Chase vehicle at any time; However, many of our guests that do smoke are able to take smoke-breaks during our bathroom and meal stops. Additionally, many of the hotels we stay at do not allow smoking in their guestrooms. Hotel policies generally include a $300.00(or more) cleaning fee for rooms where smoking violations have occured. You will be responsible for such fees if these policies are violated. Most hotels have outdoor smoking areas for your convenience. Our guests have had no issues regarding smoking, so we just ask that you be courteous to our non-smoking guests.
ARE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ALLOWED ON A TOUR?
In accordance with federal, state, and local laws, open alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the SWC Chase vehicle. We also ask that guests not be under the influence of alcohol during transit to and during an active chase. If you are found to be under the influence during these times, you will be asked to leave the tour immediately. You will be responsible for the means and cost of transportation back to the base airport. Storm chasing requires that all participants on the tour be focused at all times in order to ensure the health and safety of everyone. You are permitted to purchase alcohol en route to the hotel for that night, as this is your private time to relax and prepare for the next chase day. We provide a cooler for such instances.
